Who We Are
We dream, strategise and organise as a small team composed of artists, curators and creative practitioners based in Glasgow. A central frame to our organising principles is to acknowledge the complex breadth and scope of our individual practices as being vital to the vision, shape and delivery of our work. It is necessary for Body Remedy to enable space and flexibility for team members to be resourced to inhabit the their creative practices, in the understanding that this enables affirming, focused and dynamic contributions in allowing us to centre lived experience as a critical component to our specialist approach of resourcing BPOC multi-artform practices holistically and from multiple perspectives.
Each former or current member of our operating team has crucially informed the insight and conviction of our programmes, values and practices. Though every team member leads the direction of their programme, until we secure multi-year funding our structure consists of core team members whose work runs throughout the entire year and programme producers who are responsible for delivering our imperative projects.
Our core team holds the year-round life of Body Remedy across the strategic vision, operational infrastructure, research and relationships through which our programmes take shape and stay resourced.
Żżo holds how Body Remedy arrives at its future. Their work begins in reflection, attending to the actions, movements and trajectories of the organisation and alchemising them into a position and a language. It is this particular alchemy that becomes the work of bridging to connect the long-term dreaming of the organisation to its manifestation in the immediate. This takes shape through fundraising strategy, governance, strategic partnerships and the consolidation of the systems that give our dreaming structural ground.
Rooted in their research, curatorial and writing practice, Żżo develops equity-focused organisational models and intersectional holistic frameworks that anchor us back to what Body Remedy aims to be.

Kai Khidir Hassan
Director Operations, Visual Branding & Communications
“I respect and honour the work built by the former co-Directors, you can clearly see the degree of care and focus required to build Body Remedy. This is not a legacy of two people, it is a legacy built by an entire community. Body Remedy is nothing without the membership of our Black elders, the energy and dedication by younger artists. It is truly intergenerational, we are actually a living archive of our communities lives and by existing and doing our work we can meet and transcend the standard that institutions ask us to settle for.”
- Kai Khidir Hassan, co-Director (2026-ongoing)

Kai's role bridges the internal and the public-facing, ensuring that the way we organise ourselves and the way we present ourselves remain in integral alignment to one another.

Body Remedy was founded through a collaborative spirit that continues to shape how we work.
Though Mele and Zoë have both moved on from their directorial posts, their vision, values and practices remain woven through every layer of the organisation.
Mele Broomes
Mele founded Body Remedy in 2019, drawing on her long-spanning expertise across performance, production and organisational development. She formed the organisation working across artistic direction, programming and partnership development, spearheading its programme initiatives and recruiting the entire team, past and present. Mele stepped down as Artistic Director in 2026 and remains a vital part of the organisational ecology.
As the founder of Body Remedy and co-founder of Project X Dance, two Community Interest Companies focused on professional development, Mele has spent the past decade establishing Black and POC-led organisations, leading both creatively and strategically and contributing to the wider cultural sector in Scotland. In 2026, Mele turns her focus to a new Glasgow-based performance company, moniqux ensemble.
Zoë Tumika
Working alongside Mele since 2020, Zoë's role began administratively and evolved into Director of Operations by the time they left their post in 2025. As a crucial founding collaborator, they co-developed the values and holistic practices that remain integrated into Body Remedy's established organisational ways of working.Zoë is a multidisciplinary artist from Glasgow, working under the name Zoë Zo, Zoë Tumika & Zoë Guthrie. They engage with clay, image (re)production and sound to process, understand and share articulations of the world around them. Deep archival research, curatorial activation, and material engagement fold into one another, establishing their practice as a site to: breathe; reconfigure; play; be (a)live; shift through space; exist in multiple temporalities.Previous Members
